Police are searching for a man who held a 4-year-old boy at gunpoint while he robbed a Bethesda carryout restaurant.
The child was at the Delicias Carry Out at 4708 Highland Ave., with his mother who works at the restaurant, at the time of the robbery, which occurred shortly before 5:55 p.m., Dec. 19, according to Montgomery County Police.
The suspect confronted the woman and her son as they exited a restroom at the carry out. After robbing the employee of her personal cash, he grabbed her arm, put a gun to the head of her son, forced them to the cash register and ordered the woman to open it. She did so as the man continued to hold her son at gunpoint. He took an undisclosed amount of cash.
At this point, a 32-year-old male entered the carry out, and the suspect then forced all three victims to the back of the store, where he robbed the man. After locking the victims in a restroom, the man fled the carry out. The victims called police after they managed to escape from the restroom.
The suspect is described as a heavyset black male, 6 feet to 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a moustache, short black beard and brown eyes. During the robbery, he was wearing a ski mask, gloves, tan pants and a medium-length black jacket.
Police spokeswoman Blanca Kling said the police were not connecting the robbery to any other crimes in the area.
"We are treating this as an isolated incident," she said.
