First Team

Player of the Year

Ryan Bonheyo, MSD, Jr.

Bonheyo exploded for 1,591 yards on just 129 carries for the Orioles (11-0), who won their fifth consecutive National Deaf School title. Scored 25 touchdowns, 176 total points and had a team-best 82 tackles at linebacker.

Coach of the Year

Greg Mihalko South Carroll, Second Year

After a 3-5 start, rallied the Cavaliers (7-5) to four consecutive victories, two of them in the postseason, en route to winning the Class 1A North Region championship.


QB – Alex Phelps, Linganore, Sr.

Passed for 1,900 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Lancers.

QB — Colton Weaver, Liberty, Jr.

Passed for over 1,500 yards and 10 TD’s this season. Rushed for over 500 yards and 13 TD’s.

RB — Andre April, Frederick, Sr.

Threw for 1,750 yards and 15 TD’s for the MVAL’s Piedmont Conference champs.

RB — Kevin Wilkes Urbana, Jr.

Gained 1,500 yards on the ground with 18 TD’s for the Chesapeake champs.

RB — Lamont Wims, SJCP, Fr.

Helped pace the Vikings to a share of the MIAA C Conference title with 1,381 rushing yards and 10 TD’s.

WR – C.J. Thomas, Linganore, Sr.

Repeat first-team selection and first-team All-State player set state record with 19 TD catches. Finished with 50 grabs for 878 yards.

WR—Jakarie Jackson, Tusc. Sr.

Averaged 26.1 yards per catch on 27 receptions (715 yards) and seven TD’s.

WR— Danzel Ferguson,Frederick,Sr.

Caught 27 passes for 481 yards and seven TD’s.

TE —Trevor Terpening, S. Carroll, Sr.

Nearly half of his 12 catches went for TD’s (five). Also a devastating blocker and standout linebacker on defense.

OL — Steve Chase, T. Johnson, Sr.

Made the switch from tight end due to injury and helped key the Pats’ steady ground game.

OL — Erik Saylor, Urbana, Sr.

Anchored both Hawks’ interior lines. A second-team Big-School All-State selection.

OL – Sam Issermoyer, Liberty, Sr.

Honorable-Mention All-State performer solidified Lions offensive attack.

OL – Mike Rich, Linganore, Sr.

First-team All Chesapeake Conference performer and All-State Honorable-Mention.

OL – Colin Bass, T. Johnson, Sr.

Helped tremendously with the Patriots’ power running game.

AP – Luke Wright, Century, Sr.

Rushed for 586 yards and nine TD’s while passing for 414 yards and six TD’s as a part-time quarterback. Also picked off three passes as a defensive back for the Knights.

K —- Jake Nichols, T. Johnson, Sr.

Booted three field goals, including the game-winner in the region playoffs against Linganore.


DL – Mike Knox, Liberty, Sr.

The anchor of the Lions defense, Knox finished with 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

DL — Shawn Laudick, Linganore, Sr.

Finished with 16 sacks, including five in one game.

DL — Mark Marquez, Linganore, Sr.

With five sacks, Marquez was a first-team Chesapeake selection.

DL – J.R. Ferguson, SJCP, So.

Had 106 tackles and 18 sacks and three forced fumbles on defense and contributed six TD’s as a fullback.

DL – Imani Chatman, Urbana, Sr.

A Division I⁄I-AA prospect, Chatman collected 11 sacks on the season.

LB — Alex Cornish, Frederick, Sr.

The Piedmont’s Defensive Player of the Year collected 148 tackles, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, three blocked field goals and a blocked punt.

LB — Nick Forbes, T. Johnson, So.

Rang up over 100 tackles for the Pats and was a force as a fullback.

LB — Billy Stup, Tuscarora, Sr.

Led the entire MVAL in tackles at 156.

LB — Todd Cox, Linganore, Sr.

The Chesapeake Defensive Player of the Year registered 129 tackles.

LB — Corey Anderlik, Century, Jr.

Blue Ridge Conference Defensive Player of the Year led the Knights with 101 stops while recovering three fumbles and intercepting two passes.

DB — D.J. Scott, T. Johnson, Sr.

The shut-down corner for the Patriots also had 250 yards receiving and seven touchdowns as a wide receiver.

DB — Nick Marth, Linganore, So.

Finished with an area-best eight interceptions and was a first-team Chesapeake defender.

DB — Kevin Berrigan, MSD, Sr.

Had four picks for 161 yards and a TD.

DB — Vinnie Ahearn, Frederick, Sr.

Picked off four passes and deflected a whopping 23 others while making 51 tackles.

P —- Josh Bushwell, S. Carroll, Sr.

Consistently pinned opponents inside the 20 yard line, especially during the Cavs’ playoff run.

KR —- Corey Hunt, T.Johnson, Sr.

Returned both a kickoff and a punt return for touchdowns in the same game. Finished with 11 total TD’s, and averaged 10.0 yards a carry as a running back.
