BGE gas customersto see a 10 percent drop

Baltimore Gas and Electric announced last week that customers who receive gas from the utility supplier will see a 10 percent drop in rates during the winter season.

Though BGE had said earlier this year that customers would see a lower bill, the current estimate is slightly higher because of the recent cold snap in the Midwest.

Customers on average can expect to pay $695 during the winter season (Nov. 1 to March 31), which is down from $773 last year. This is based on a normal winter season. A sudden cold trend or a change in market indicators could affect customers’ bills.

‘‘Although BGE does not control or benefit from the price of natural gas, we are constantly monitoring market prices and making every effort to procure natural gas at the lowest possible price,” said Mark Case, vice president of business performance, strategy and regulatory services for BGE. ‘‘BGE customers continue to benefit from a mild hurricane season, increased U.S. production of natural gas and the proactive procurement and storage of natural gas by BGE.”
