Autism fundraiser nets $100,000A gala for the Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC), based in Montgomery Village, brought in about $100,000 for the group. The following were recognized: Foundation of the Year: The Meade Family Foundation; Corporate Supporter of the Year: Richard J. Princinsky and Associates; Employers of the Year: The Gazette Newspapers and The Home Depot; Parents of the Year: Dr. and Mrs. Josef and Kristine Yeager; Employee Recognition Awards: Ben Sawo, Caroline Onyejekwe and Joseph Sackey. Names and Faces The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce installed the following officers: John Compton of GeneDX Inc., chairman; and Allan DeLeon of DeLeon & Stang CPAs and Advisors, chairman-elect. Also, Laura Rowles of Office Paper Systems Inc. and Robert Cowdrey of Capital Bank were elected directors. Andy Bass of United Bank received the You Made a Difference Award and Kathy Thompson of Follow Your Heart Yoga in Germantown won the Small Business of the Year Award. Provident Bank of Baltimore named Michael B. Vavreck of Gaithersburg vice president in its emerging businesses division. Previously, Vavreck was vice president of deposit operations at Citizens Savings Bank, vice president of alternative delivery at Farmers & Mechanics Bank and vice president of Internet banking at Mercantile Safe Deposit & Trust. Micromet Inc. of Bethesda named Joseph P. Slattery a director and chairman of its audit committee, succeeding Phillip Schneider. Previously, Slattery was senior vice president and CFO of Digene Corp. and left when it was acquired by Qiagen in July. He also was an audit manager at KPMG and a staff auditor at Ernst & Young. Ruppert Nurseries of Laytonsville promoted Mike Lubitz of Mount Airy to controller. Lubitz joined the company in 2004 as assistant controller. Also, Phil Key of Miller’s Island returned as director of landscape management operations. Key joined Ruppert in 1986 as field manager and was promoted several times. Immunomic Therapeutics Inc. of Gaithersburg and Baltimore named Roscoe M. Moore Jr. of Silver Spring to lead its business advisory board. Sodexho Inc. of Gaithersburg promoted James Taylor to president of its U.S. Senior Services Division. Previously, Taylor was corporate vice president in the president’s office.
