Carroll Community College scholarship fundThe Carroll Community College Foundation announced that Jim and Lee Sturgill, principals of Sturgill and Associates, LLP recently established a scholarship fund. It will annually benefit two students, majoring in accounting, who are completing their studies at Carroll and plan to transfer to a four-year college to further their studies in the accounting field. Sturgill and Associates, LLP, locally owned, was founded in 1993 and is a full-service accounting firm. Human Services Programs needs volunteers Human Services Programs of Carroll County is in need of volunteers for critical programs to serve those in need. Help ensure that no one suffers in the cold this winter in Carroll County by volunteering with the county’s Cold Weather Shelter. This program provides shelter, food, shower and laundry facilities to the homeless. Volunteer to greet and register residents upon their entrance to the shelter, assist residents with activities during the evening, including meal preparation and laundry, maintain order and security in and around the facility. It’s a seasonal opportunity through March 31. Volunteers needed in shifts from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., who must be at least 18 years of age. Detailed training and orientation will be provided. The Neighbors In Need program helps more than 3,000 people each year by providing food and gifts for the holiday season. Volunteer to adopt a family, organize a gift drive or work in the offices or at the holiday shop location. The Energy Assistance program helps keep utility costs manageable for low and fixed income residents. Volunteer to perform clerical jobs handling files and paperwork for the Maryland Energy Assistance Program. The Family Support helps ensure that children in Carroll County are meeting their milestones and are cared for while their parents work toward basic education and employment. Volunteer working directly with the children or provide support for staff in other areas. Training, orientation and on-going support are provided for all volunteers. Gift shop benefitsFeed My Sheep Dream Dinners of Eldersburg will open its gift shop through Dec. 22 to raise money for Feed My Sheep, a group that provides a free meals to anyone who is hungry. Meals are provided noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays at Wesley Freedom Church in Eldersburg. Dream Dinners will donate 10 percent of all gift shop sales to Feed My Sheep. The shop features a local artisans co-operative that includes kitchen gadgets, art objects, jewelry and other handcrafted items for sale. Hours include 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. The shop will also be open during assembly sessions.
