Player of the Year
Mary Theresa Callahan, Bowie, Sr., G
Although not tall in stature, the 5-foot-5 Bowie senior goalkeeper came up big for the Bulldogs in two victories over Eleanor Roosevelt and made several exceptional saves in a 3-0 loss to eventual state champion Leonardtown in the Class 4A state semifinals. Callahan recorded 10 shutouts and made 159 saves while leading the Bulldogs to their first 4A South Region championship in four years.
Coach of the Year
Mellanie Nai, Elizabeth Seton, fourth year
In her fourth season at the helm with Elizabeth Seton, Nai guided the all-girls private school to a 6-3-9 mark in the tough Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. She molded a solid corps of players who were freshmen during her rookie season into a formidable squad this season, capped by a lopsided 4-0 victory over Holy Cross on senior day and ties against WCAC powers Good Counsel and St. John's.
First team
Britney Harris, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sr.
Making her third appearance on the first team, the senior scored 14 goals and added seven assists for the 16-2 Raiders. Blessed with a solid leg and good footwork, Harris scored the Raiders' lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Bowie in the 4A South Region final.
Brianna Hovington, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jr., F
The gifted junior forward, who is a member of the Olympic Development Program, led the Raiders with 24 goals and added five assists. Her combination of speed and agility made her difficult to defend.
Joy Doucette, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sr.
Blessed with a strong leg, the senior took most of the corners and free kicks for the Raiders this fall. She was third on the team with 13 goals and added seven assists.
Jeni Heizer, Bowie. Jr., D
The junior anchored the Bulldogs' flat-back defense and could have easily occupied the sweeper role. She played with determination when pursuing oncoming attackers and possesses good ball handling skills.
Marissa Green, Bowie, Fr., F
Though she is accustomed to playing in the midfield, the freshman handled the forward role superbly and led the 4A South Region champions with 27 goals, including three hat tricks.
Breanna Yon, Bishop McNamara, Sr., D
The stellar senior defender was a force for the Mustangs this fall, often changing the flow of the game with her tenacity and intensity. She was equally adept at passing the ball with her foot and her head.
Caitlin Harris, Grace Brethren, Jr., M
The talented junior midfielder possesses superb dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Harris was second on the Eagles with 15 goals, led the team with 13 assists and created havoc in the midfield for opposing defenders.
Fany Ruano, High Point, Sr., F
During the league schedule, the senior led all scorers with 26 goals and added two assists. She had six-goal games against Charles H. Flowers and Suitland and added four goals against DuVal.
Tracee Morgan, Henry A. Wise, Jr.
In only the program's third season, Morgan helped the Pumas become a quality squad and earn a first-round bye in the 4A South Region. The junior led the Pumas with 18 goals and added nine assists.
Jenny Ashurst, Elizabeth Seton, Sr., M
The senior played with determination as the Roadrunners' primary defensive center midfielder. She scored seven goals and added four assists.
Zulia Menjivar, Parkdale, Jr.
Blessed with exceptional dribbling skills, the junior often found herself surrounded by three defenders. She led the senior-laden Panthers with 14 goals and added 10 assists, including five goals in an 8-0 win against Suitland.
Chloe McKenzie, Elizabeth Seton, Jr., G
The strong, athletic junior goalie enjoyed a stellar season for the Roadrunners. She made 165 saves, compiled 11 shutouts and allowed only 9 goals in 18 starts and was named to the All-WCAC First Team.
Jazzmine Chandler, St. Vincent Pallotti, Sr., F/D
Primarily a defender, the senior displayed versatility by playing several games at forward. She frequently marked the opponents' best offensive player and was selected to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference All-Star squad.
Ashley Furbush, Laurel, Sr.
The senior led the Spartans with 19 goals. She had a nine-game goal scoring streak and had two goals in the Spartans' 3-0 victory over Parkdale and the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Wise in the regional quarterfinals.
