Police arrest three after car chase

A police chase that began in Fairfax County near Tysons Corner Center ended Thursday evening when a Honda Civic with four people was involved in a collision at Route 29 and Greyrock Drive in Silver Spring. Police arrested three people and a fourth, a woman, escaped, according to Montgomery County Police.

County police charged Shernika D. Mason, 19, of the 3700 block of Woodbine Avenue in Baltimore and Tamika S. Bryant, 18, of the 11100 block of Slalom Lane in Columbia as fugitives from justice.

A third person, a 21-year-old man from Jessup, was in police custody, according to Montgomery County Police. He was taken to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar unit with a gunshot wound, according to Fairfax County Police. That injury is believed to have occurred in Fairfax County.

The other woman, who was wearing a light green top, blue jeans and was barefoot, is still at large, according to county police.

According to Fairfax County Police, the chase began 6:45 p.m. when officers of the department’s Christmas anti-theft team began following several people suspected of being involved in criminal activity while inside the mall. The officers followed them as they drove off the mall property and stopped the car near the intersection of Gallows Road and Leesburg Pike.

There was a confrontation and shots were fired, Fairfax police reported. Two police officers suffered minor injuries, but neither was hit by the gunfire.
