A man in prison for a 2003 homicide has been charged in a triple murder that occurred earlier the same year in Landover Hills.
Moises Medina, 29, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths April 8, 2003, in Landover Hills.
He was sentenced Dec. 16, 2004, to 30 years in prison and was serving at Cumberland's Western Correctional Institution for a Dec. 31, 2003, homicide, according to online Prince George's County Circuit Court records. The last listed address for Medina prior to his trial was in Landover, court records state.
Prince George's County police sent an arrest warrant to the Cumberland prison on Nov. 13 and removed Medina on Nov. 18. He is currently being held without bond at Upper Marlboro's Department of Corrections, police said.
A preliminary hearing for Medina is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Dec. 16 at the County Courthouse in Upper Marlboro according to online County Circuit Court records.
County police responded about 1:35 a.m. April 8, 2003, to the Stardust Inn in the 7500 block of Annapolis Road to find three men dead from gunshot wounds. The men were Francisco Javier Ornelas, 30, of the 5600 block of Eighth Street in Alexandria, Va.; and Noe Ornelas-Cruz, 22, and Robert Roman Jr., 19, both of the 7700 block of Garrison Road in West Lanham Hills.
Police have worked on the triple homicide case for years, and witnesses are now coming forward implicating Medina as the shooter, said Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a county police spokesman.
Rodriguez had no information on what Medina's relationship was with the three men, whether Medina is the focal point of the investigation or whether police are searching for other suspects.
Attorney information for Medina was not available by press time.
