A 47-year-old Gaithersburg man is suffering life-threatening injuries after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Derwood this morning, Montgomery County Police said.
First District police officers responded to the single-vehicle crash in the 6700 block of Needwood Road at approximately 8:11 a.m., police said.
Police said a tan 2004 Ford Excursion driven by Serafim Yevsukov of the unit block of Circuit Court was traveling eastbound on Needwood Road toward Muncaster Mill Road, approaching Equestrian Lane, when it traveled sideways into a Pepco utility pole, making impact with the driver's door.
Police had no other details of the crash by mid-afternoon, said Officer Melanie Brenner, a county police spokeswoman.
Yevsukov was originally transported to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, but was transferred to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of what are believed to be serious injuries, police said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
