Security must be a top priority

Hyattsville’s mayor and council members failed the citizens once more by rejecting a proposal to increase the number of police officers.

The level proposed was two members more than the chief of police had recommended as a minimum two years ago, before annexation of the shopping areas along East West Highway and University Hills, and the large amount of new development in the city.

Citizens have consistently complained to the city during that time period of increased crime, fear of crime and lack of community policing with officers, of necessity, being concentrated in the commercial areas.

Please contact your council members to express on what you think your tax money should be spent – fancy new trash cans, soccer fields, consultants or police protection.
