The Frederick Arts Council announced last week that 17 arts and nonprofit groups will be beneficiaries of more than $35,000 in grant funds for art-related activities in 2010.
The council annually distributes grants to nonprofit agencies, and executive director Shuan Butcher said the council was grateful to be able to continue to act as a conduit for the arts community despite tough economic conditions nationwide.
The funds are distributed through the Community Arts Development grant program, and made possible from funds from the Maryland State Arts Council, the Frederick County government, Bechtel Group Foundation and individual and corporate donations.
Groups that received grants include Celebrate Frederick, City of Brunswick, Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, Downtown Frederick Partnership, Emmitsburg Community Chorus, Equinox Dance, Frederick Chorale, Frederick Reads, Frederick Symphony Orchestra, Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra, Fredericktowne Players, Maryland Shakespeare Festival, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, Spires Brass Band, The Thurmont Thespians, the Weinberg Center for the Arts and Calvary United Methodist Church's Music Program.
