Before settling in for that turkey dinner this Thanksgiving, The Weinberg Center for the Arts will invite Frederick audiences on an artistic pilgrimage of diverse cultures.
First up are The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats, who bring their 30th North American Theatre Tour to Frederick tonight. Eschewing the ancient Orient practice of achieving harmony between mind and body, the family-friendly production features amazing feats of balance, martial arts and more a combination of grace and incredible focus, honed throughout years of intense training.
On Sunday, Irish ensemble, Cherish the Ladies, will perform. Renowned across the globe, the all-female ensemble has released 10 acclaimed albums to date, including Celtic Christmas bestseller "Christmas Night" in 2004. Featuring musical arrangements accented by step dancers, the afternoon performance will captivate audiences with a combination of traditional classics and contemporary favorites.
Those already in the Christmas spirit have a pair of shows to choose from this weekend. "Another Radio Christmas," the sequel to 2005's "An Old-Fashioned Radio Christmas," opens at Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre tonight, while "Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!)" will play out to comical effect Saturday at Frederick's Cultural Arts Center, courtesy of The Fredericktowne Players.
Or go see everything. Get some practice in splurging before next Thursday rolls around.
