Prince George's County Councilwoman Ingrid Turner (D-Dist. 4) of Bowie will host a town hall meeting for District 4 residents at 7:30 p.m. today at the Glenn Dale Community Center, located at 11901 Glenn Dale Blvd.
Prince George's County Fire Chief Eugene Jones and Police Chief Roberto Hylton will speak about priorities in their departments at the meeting and give updates on speed cameras, staffing levels, and other matters. Residents will then have the opportunity to ask questions.

Housing rehabilitation grants available for seniors
The city of Bowie has begun a green housing rehabilitation grant program to assist senior citizens in Bowie who need repairs to their homes. Repairs potentially eligible for the grants include roofing, siding, insulation, windows, doors, lighting, Energy Star Appliance upgrades, heating and cooling systems, and faucet, toilet, shower and water heater upgrades.

Photography club, student work on display at City Hall
Members of the Bowie-Crofton Camera Club will have their work on display through the end of November at Bowie City Hall, along with artwork from students at St. Pius X Regional School.
The Camera Club has been in existence for more than 30 years and its membership demonstrates a wide range of skill levels, interests and experiences. Club members whose work is displayed at City Hall are:
Bella Agrawalla, Steve Bruzza, James Carrington, Debi Davidson, Robert Elkin, Beth Fabey, Vincent Ferrari, Pat French, Theresa Harrison, Robert Howard, Mark Laster, Frank Lee, Thelma Loret de Mola, Bob Matthews, Paula Reitan, Joe Rooney, Marion Shipman, Lauren Smith, Warren Wilson and Donna Zellars.
Photos are on display in the halls City Hall and are open for viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
In addition, students from St. Pius X Regional School have their artwork on display in The Young Person's Art Gallery, which is located in the entrance foyer of City Hall, through the end of November.

Soroptimist club seeks young volunteer award nominees
Soroptimist International of Bowie-Crofton, an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, is seeking applicants for its recognition program for girls who have made a positive difference in the community.
The Violet Richardson Award honors girls between the ages of 14 and 17 for volunteer action such as fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment, or working to end discrimination and poverty.
The winner and the organization with which she volunteers will receive a cash award. Club-level winners become eligible for regional cash awards that will be given to the volunteer organization with which the winner works. One national finalist will be chosen from among the regional award winners for an additional award.
"As a volunteer service organization for business and professional women, Soroptimist believes that by acknowledging young women's volunteer involvement now, they will grow up to be vital, active members of the community," said Lynn Hansford, president of the Bowie-Crofton club in a statement.

BHS graduate completes basic training
Air National Guard Airman Alec N. Clark graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Clark completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
By completing the basic training he earned four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Clark is the son of Jack Clark of Bowie and Belle Clark of Auburn, Ga. and a 2008 Bowie High School graduate.
New members inducted into music honor society
This fall, 32 students, including those from Bowie, were inducted into the Eleanor Roosevelt High School chapter of the Modern Music Masters, also known as Tri-M, Music Honor Society.
Founded in 1936, Tri-M is an international music honor society for secondary school students. The society recognizes students for their academic and musical achievements and for their service activities.
