The Home and School Association at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School has launched a citrus drive with proceeds benefitting the school landscaping and ground maintenance on the school's Silver Spring campus.
The grapefruit, oranges and tangerines make great holiday gifts for friends and family during the winter months. The price ranges from $15 to $26 for 10 to 40 pounds of fruit.

Students bring classic
to Blair for fall production
Looking for Mr. Darcy? Look no further than Montgomery Blair High School's production of "Pride and Prejudice," 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The play is directed by Kelly O'Connor, now in her 10th year at Blair. All shows are in the school auditorium.

Local high school play
Northwood High School presents "An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf," a play by Michael Hollinger about a 1960s Paris café highlighting the works of Ernest Hemmingway. The show, in association with the school's Musical Theatre Academy, will be held 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Northwood auditorium, 919 University Blvd. West. General admission is $10 or $5 for students with a student ID.
International peace night celebration at W.T. Page
W.T. Page Elementary will hold an international night celebration, called "World Peace at Page," 6:30 p.m. Friday. The free event is open to the community and annually attended by hundreds. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the global peace symbol with a student/parent show, food from around the world, international games and artifacts and a global goods craft bazaar to get holiday shopping off to a good start. Turkey Trot to benefit breast cancer research
Takoma Park Middle School will hold its annual Turkey Trot throughout the day Monday at the school, 7611 Piney Branch Road. The cross country-style race is nearly one mile long and covers the entire school campus. This year, the school is encouraging students to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. The school's goal is to donate $1,000 to the National Cancer Institute in Rockville. Every runner is asked to find a $5 sponsor. School of technology
holds open house
Thomas Edison High School of Technology will hold its annual open house 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the school, 12501 Dalewood Drive, Silver Spring. The event gives students and parents a chance to visit Edison and see firsthand the 19 career programs available to high school students throughout the county public school system.
Edison students are able to jumpstart a career of their choice; earn college credits; earn industry certifications; and acquire marketable skills while experiencing success through hands-on learning.

Blair High holds
fundraiser at bookstore
The Montgomery Blair High School PTSA in Silver Spring will hold its second-annual fundraiser Sunday at the Barnes and Nobel Booksellers, 4801 Bethesda Ave., Bethesda. Store hours run 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Tell the cashier you're supporting Blair and the school will get a percentage of the sales. Blair student groups will provide entertainment all day starting at 10 a.m. and there will be displays of books that can be purchased as gifts and to support the Blair Media Center. All proceeds go to the Blair after-prom program.

wins swimming events
Washington College sophomore swimmer Rachel Glasser won three individual events as the Shorewomen swept a quad meet against Bryn Mawr, Randolph-Macon, and Sweet Briar colleges. The 2007 Springbrook High School graduate and Silver Spring native was named a Division III All-American her freshman year.
