Mohamed Aboul-Enein of the 800 block of Trotters Ridge Lane in Gaithersburg was a passenger in a 2003 Volkswagen Golf driven by his son, Ibrahim Aboul-Enein, 44, of the same address just before 4 p.m. when they were involved in a collision on Frederick Avenue.
A 1999 Volkswagen Passsat was traveling south on Frederick Avenue approaching Montgomery Village Avenue when the 2003 Golf entered the intersection and the two cars collided, according to county police. The Golf's direction of travel is still under investigation.
That collision sent the Golf into the intersection, where it collided with a 2003 Nissan Maxima waiting in the eastbound lanes of Montgomery Village Avenue for the signal to make a left turn onto Frederick Avenue.
Mohamed Aboul-Enein was taken to Suburban Hospital, where he died of his injuries. Ibrahim Aboul-Enein was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other drivers were not injured, according to county police.
The driver of the Passat was Frederick Nbunwe, 21, of the 11000 block of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring. The driver of the Maxima was Diane Chae, 43, of the 17000 block of Cricket Hill Drive in Germantown.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the collision.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore on Mohamed Aboul-Enein.
