The Metro Washington (D.C.) chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors announced the following Maryland winners of Excellence in Construction Awards:

*Sun Control Systems of Rockville (specialties and furnishings)

*Custom Walls & Windows Inc. of Jessup (windows, glass and storefront)

The University of Maryland’s Maryland Industrial Partnerships program in College Park won a national Excellence in Technology-Based Economic Development Award from the State Science and Technology Institute. The award is in the category of Improving Competitiveness of Existing Industry.

Cannon Design of Baltimore won the Public Building of the Year Award from the American Institute of Architects of Maryland for designing the new 192,000-square-foot academic building at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville. The Camille Kendall Academic Center is the largest ‘‘green” higher education building in Maryland and one of the first University System of Maryland buildings to achieve a gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Media ventures of the National Electrical Contractors Association of Bethesda and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Washington, D.C., were recognized in the Web Marketing Association WebAwards competition.

Prometric of Baltimore won first place in the customer service category of CLO Magazine’s Learning in Practice ‘‘Vendor” Awards for its work with the American Board of Pediatrics.

Aronson & Co. of Rockville was named one of Inside Public Accounting’s 25 Best of the Best National Accounting Firms for the fifth consecutive year.

Debt Shield of Columbia was the first debt settlement company to win the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

Constellation NewEnergy, a subsidiary of Constellation Energy of Baltimore, won a 2007 Green Power Leadership award from the U.S Department of Energy for incorporating so-called ‘‘green” power into the overall energy portfolio for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

South River Technologies Inc. of Annapolis was named one of the region’s ‘‘Small Giants” by the Greater Baltimore Technology Council.

Two divisions of Lockheed Martin Corp. of Bethesda won two of five awards given annually by the Department of Defense and the National Defense Industrial Association for excellence in systems engineering: Lockheed Martin Systems Integration in Owego, N.Y., and Lockheed Martin Mission and Combat Support Solutions in Valley Forge, Pa.

Catapult Technology Ltd. of Bethesda, a service-disabled veteran-owned information technology federal contractor, was an Industry Honoree in the 2007 Government Computer News Awards. Catapult was named among the top 25 8(a) firms.

Sodexho Inc. of Gaithersburg won three Best Concept Awards from Penton Media’s Food Management magazine for its new ‘‘mini-dessert” concept; an awareness initiative for students in two Rhode Island school districts; and a customer service program. Sodexho also received an Economic Development Leadership Award from Montgomery County and was recognized by Gov. Martin O’Malley for its ‘‘commitment to corporate social responsibility, most notably its efforts through its philanthropic arm, the Sodexho Foundation, for leading the fight against hunger in the United States.”

Cigna HealthCare Mid-Atlantic of Baltimore was recognized as the best insurance plan in Maryland for the second straight year by U.S.News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

BrowserMedia of Bethesda won four W3 Awards from the International Academy of the Visual Arts for its work on the following projects: its own corporate Web site; the Disease Management Association; The River School; and Trow & Rahal.
