Two award-winning films about the sacrifices made by soldiers will air on Access Montgomery this week in honor of Veteran's Day.
"Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Sacrifice," a feature-length film by Samuel Bland of Germantown, uses footage from battles in Iraq, families greeting returning veterans and funerals at Arlington National Cemetery to show the sacrifices made by soldiers, their families and the Iraqi people. And "Our Veterans, Our Warriors: Fallen Soldiers of Montgomery County" by Greg Hamilton of Gaithersburg features interviews with the families of 12 county soldiers who were killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Hopefully when people watch it they see the dangers these guys face and the sacrifices they and their families make on a daily basis," Bland said of his film. "...You see news footage [of the war] and all you see is little clips. This shows everything from start to finish."
"Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Sacrifice" won a bronze Telly Award, a national competition that honors local, regional and cable television programs, and an Access Montgomery Monty Award in 2008. "Our Veterans, Our Warriors" won a 2009 Hometown Video Award, a national competition for community media and local television programs.
"Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Sacrifice" is scheduled to air at 12:30 p.m. today, 11 p.m. Thursday, 5:30 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. "Our Veterans, Our Warriors: Fallen Soldiers of Montgomery County" will air at 8:30 p.m. today, 2 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Friday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Both films will air on channel 21 on the Comcast, RCN and Verizon cable systems.
