Seneca Valley girls basketball senior Kelsey Wolfe, the county's co-leading scorer last winter, is signing a full scholarship this week to play for the University of Virginia women's basketball team.
A reigning All-Gazette first-team selection, Wolfe averaged 21.2 points per game for the Screaming Eagles, who had their best season (17-6) in more than a decade last winter. The three-year starter saved her best for the biggest games, including a 32-point effort in a near-upset of Paint Branch and 38 in the 3A West Region quarterfinals against Frederick.
In a Jan. 23 victory over Einstein, she scored her 1,000th point in a Seneca Valley uniform.
Wolfe, a standout for the Fairfax (Va.) Stars AAU squad, was offered by the Cavaliers shortly after the summer season. According to the Stars' Web site, Wolfe helped the team ranked fifth in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz earn an invitation to a national championship tournament.
