Seneca Valley girls basketball senior Kelsey Wolfe, the county's co-leading scorer last winter, is signing a full scholarship this week to play for the University of Virginia women's basketball team.
A reigning All-Gazette first-team selection, Wolfe averaged 21.2 points per game for the Screaming Eagles, who had their best season (17-6) in more than a decade last winter. The three-year starter saved her best for the biggest games, including a 32-point effort in a near-upset of Paint Branch and 38 in the 3A West Region quarterfinals against Frederick.
In a Jan. 23 victory over Einstein, she scored her 1,000th point in a Seneca Valley uniform.
Wolfe, a standout for the Fairfax (Va.) Stars AAU squad, was offered by the Cavaliers shortly after the summer season. According to the Stars' Web site, Wolfe helped the team — ranked fifth in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz — earn an invitation to a national championship tournament.
