In a mild upset, third-seeded Watkins Mill (13-3) defeated No. 2 B-CC (12-4) 3-0 in a 3A West Region girls volleyball semifinal in Bethesda Wednesday night.
Senior Gretta Digbeu had nine individual blocks while fellow senior outside hitter Kim Van Lowe paced the Wolverines (13-3) offense with 17 kills.
"I've never seen my team so on fire," said Watkins Mill head coach Jody Tyler. "We were making plays, kids were all around the court and that gave B-CC a hard time. We took advantage of their mistakes."
Barons head coach Michelle Clise agreed.
"We had a lot of unforced errors," said Clise. "When you give them points, it's hard to overcome that. The better team won tonight and they deserved it."
The Wolverines host Damascus in the regional final Friday at 3:30 p.m. Watkins Mill defeated the Swarmin' Hornets on Oct. 22 in five games.
Damascus 3, Paint Branch 0
In another win for the lower seed, fourth-seeded Damascus (10-6) toppled No. 1 Paint Branch, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21, in the other 3A West Region semifinal Wednesday in Burtonsville.
"We lost, but it was a lot of pressure," said Panther head coach Nicole Shields. "Overall, we are disappointed, but we exceeded my expectations. We came out of nowhere being 8-6 last year to 12-4 this year."
Elaina Straub, Kate McGrew and Samantha Fean will all return next year for the Panthers.

Poolesville (16-0) defeated visiting Williamsport (13-4) to advance to the 1A West Region final. The Falcons will host the winner of the Smithsburg-Fort Hill match on Friday at 6 p.m.
