Kirsten Nicholson, a senior at Century High School took first runner up at this weekend's Miss Maryland Teen USA 2010 Pageant in Bethesda. Kirsten competed against 63 other participants from across the state.
The competition began on Friday with the interview segment, where a strong competitor must be able to think quickly on her feet and be ready to speak off the cuff at anytime. On Saturday, the contestants competed in the preliminary competition and Kirsten earned a spot in Sunday's final performance and competition, where the Sykesville resident competed again in evening gown, swimsuit and onstage interview. As part of the interview, she was asked an onstage question about having an education or being rich.

As the first runner up this year, Kirsten received thousands of dollars in prizes and a $29,000 college scholarship. Kirsten will continue to work in her community by supporting her high schools "Best Buddies" program and beginning a program combining her passion and love for dance to those who are less fortunate.
"Kirsten was extremely poised and shined like a star on stage," said Megan Graybeal of MG Models who has worked with Kirsten for two years. "She has a lot to be grateful for and is very proud of her achievements this weekend, as is her family and friends."
The crown of this years Miss Maryland Teen USA 2010 title went to Kamie Crawford, 17, of Potamac.
