Four male Maryland School for the Deaf students are facing criminal charges for the alleged sexual assault of a fellow male student at the school last month.
All four students have been charged with fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit each of those offenses, the Frederick Police Department said.
All charges are misdemeanors, said Lt. Shawn Martyak of the Frederick Police Department.
Three students a 17-year-old Frederick resident and two 17-year-old Baltimore residents have been charged as juveniles.
Tyler Daniel Dilks, 20, of Harford County has been charged as an adult, and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12. No public phone number is available for Dilks.
Martyak said all four have been issued a criminal summons, meaning they have been charged with the crimes, but were not arrested. Instead, they signed a document making a commitment to appear in court. If they do not show up, a bench warrant will be issued, Martyak said.
The assault was reported on Oct. 27 at the Maryland School for the Deaf campus. All students involved in the incident, including the victim, lived in the same dorm, police said.
The victim was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital the night of the incident and released the next morning, police said.
Police have not released additional details on the assault and court documents are not yet available.
Officials at Maryland School for the Deaf did not immediately return phone calls for comment and a call to the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office was not immediately returned.
