Whitman art school forum coming soon

Montgomery County students interested in art school are invited to the eighth-annual Walt Whitman High Art School Forum, scheduled from 5-7:30 p.m., Dec. 2, at the Bethesda school.
Admissions representatives will be on hand from some of the best art schools in the country, and students will be able to have their portfolios critiqued by the counselors. Some schools offer instant acceptance based on strong portfolios.
Students are asked to bring slides, portfolios, or sketchbooks of their work.

Area schools host
fall open houses
For parents and students interested in private schools, a slew of area schools will host open houses in the coming weeks:
-Bullis School in Potomac will host an open house from 1-3 p.m., Sunday. Bullis offers classes for students in third through 12th grades. For more information, call the school at 301-299-8500. The school is located at 10601 Falls Road, Potomac.
-The Muslim Community School and Alim Preparatory Academy opens its doors from 2-4 p.m., Nov. 13. The Potomac school offers classes for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Classes include Islamic studies, Arabic, Quran, and many others. The school is located at 7917 Montrose Road, Potomac. -Chevy Chase United Methodist Church Preschool will welcome guests from 9:30-11 a.m., Nov. 11. No RSVP is necessary, and parents will be offered a tour of the school. The preschool is located at 7001 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase.
-Parents interested in the Holy Cross School in Garrett Park are welcome at the school from 9-11:30 a.m., Nov. 11. Holy Cross is located at 4900 Strathmore Ave., Garrett Park, and for more information call 301-949-1699.
B-CC holds citrus sale
The Bethesda- Chevy Chase High School music department's annual citrus fruit sale is currently underway, with orders due Nov. 13.
Boxes of oranges, tangelos, grapefruits, and tangerines are available, and order forms can be found at the school's Web site, www.montgomery
schoolsmd.org/schools/bcchs.
Don't like fruit? You can buy a box of fruit and donate it to the Manna Food Center as well. A portion of the money raised will go to support the music department and the music trip scholarship fund.

Hispanic College Fair set
for Monday
Montgomery College, The Universities of Maryland at Shady Grove and the School Counseling Services of Montgomery County Public Schools will hold a Hispanic College Fair informational session for parents and students from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, the night before this year's Hispanic College Fair.
The parents' session will be held at The Universities of Maryland at Shady Grove Campus, Building 2, Room 1022, 9630 Gudelsky Drive in Rockville.
Topics to be discussed include financial aid, how to apply for scholarships, filling out the federal aid FAFSA form, the importance of preparing for college, what courses should be taken in high school to be college ready, the college application process, what college admissions representatives look for in college applicants and understanding two-year and four-year college options.
Hispanic college students will be on hand to answer questions concerning their experiences transitioning from high school to college.
