Growth commentary was on point
|
The editorial, "Where we grow from here," and accompanying political cartoon [Oct. 14], hit the nail on the head. The county's planning department and planning board, under the direction of Royce Hanson, explicitly has told many of us publicly and in private meetings, to get out of the way; we are too "old," and our neighborhoods are too "old." We and our children are not the future of the county. That the planners feel comfortable telling this to residents of the county who grew up here, raised their children here, volunteered for PTAs, county, and local religious institution boards here, and paid taxes for decades here, speaks volumes about this county government and its arrogance. Whether the County Council members agree with this assertion and this approach to the residents remains to be seen, and we in our "old" neighborhoods will be watching closely.
