Before suiting up to go snag a sugar fix this Halloween, audiences can soothe their spirits with a variety of music, courtesy of the American Revival Tour.
The Tour kicks off The Weinberg Center for the Art's 2009-10 Emerging Artist Series at 8 p.m. tonight, and features a cross-section of musical talent, from acoustic to folk, country and bluegrass. The evening will feature performances from female quartet Uncle Earl, who perform in the tradition of old-time string bands; The Dixie-Bee Liners, nationally-renowned for their feats of harmony; and 18-year old Sierra Hull, a mandolin-playing phenomenon. www.weinbergcenter.org
Another series makes its way back to Frederick on Sunday, with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's first chamber concert for the season, "Melody and Romance," at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick.
"Melody and Romance" will feature violinist Qing Li, violist Karin Brown, and cellists Seth Low and Dariusz Skoraczewski performing Schubert's String Trio in B-Flat Major. Additional chamber concerts will be held on Dec. 13 and April 11, with full orchestra concerts at The Weinberg Center for the Arts beginning Jan. 15. www.bsomusic.org/frederick
Finally, celebrate Halloween Saturday evening at The Weinberg Center for the Arts with the 1920 silent film, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, " starring John Barrymore. www.weinbergcenter.org. Or make it a Doctor-Doctor double-feature and check out the Maryland Ensemble Theatre's live adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale the night before. www.marylandensemble.org. Sure, it's a lot of theatergoing for one weekend, but it's Halloween. Go crazy and treat yourself.
