Montgomery Community Television named Merlyn Reineke of Kensington executive director. Previously, Reineke worked for PBS, Wingspan: The Air & Space Channel, National Empowerment Television and KCAL-TV.

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals of Bethesda named William L. Ashton a director. Ashton is dean of the Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy, University of the Sciences. Previously, he worked for Amgen.

Encounter the Gospel of Life of Germantown named Ann Gradowski acting executive director. Gradowski works at the Catholic Student Center at the University of Maryland, College Park. Also, Ann M. Bryan, a partner at Kaiser, Scherer and Schlegel, was named treasurer, and Matt Moore of Shulman Rogers Gandal Pordy & Ecker was named a board member.

Leadership Montgomery named Michael Mael of Potomac president. Mael is director of strategy and finance for the Washington National Opera.

The Washington Group of MassMutual in Bethesda named Adolph W. Ebersberger Jr. a financial adviser. A Navy veteran, Ebersberger previously managed his own practice.

Discovery Communications of Silver Spring promoted Lori McFarling to chief marketing officer, Discovery Education and Domestic Distribution. Before joining Discovery 21 years ago, McFarling was a national accounts manager at C-SPAN and also worked for Procter and Gamble.

The University of Maryland's Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute in College Park named Carolyn Boulger Karlson director. Previously, Karlson was dean of graduate studies at College of Notre Dame in Baltimore and also taught at the University of Notre Dame.

SafeNet of Baltimore named Charles J. Neral senior vice president and CFO. Previously, Neral was vice president of finance for IBM's software business.

Hyatt Commercial of Annapolis, a subsidiary of Severn Bancorp, named John Hess COO. Previously, Hess was director of asset management for Struever Bros. Eccles and Rouse and also worked for Phillips Edison & Co., Greenberg Gibbons Commercial, Prime Retail and The Rouse Co. Earlier, he was president of Hess Apparel.

Avatech Solutions of Baltimore promoted Lawrence Rychlak, 53, to president; he will remain CFO. Before joining Avatech in 2005, Rychlak was interim president, senior vice president and CFO with Environmental Elements.
