Our state senator, Paul Pinsky, told an audience in Cheverly that the slots initiative is a "scam."
He said it was pushed initially by the gaming interests and then adopted by the state government as a way to increase revenue.
Of course, the governor and others now state that the purpose of the slots is to support education. But the legislature allocated only 50 percent of the slots' gross for education.
Why not 75 percent?
Why doesn't the state run the slots itself and take 100 percent, as it does the state lottery?
And why are the voters being asked to amend the Maryland Constitution to support slots?
Please vote no on state Ballot Question No. 2, the proposed constitutional amendment.
Our wonderful state does not need more gambling. We need a government that has pride in our state and its people, and that supports stable revenue sources for an educational system of excellence.
