I have been a resident of Village Gate for 13 years. Not once, not twice, but now three times some type of recreational facilities have been proposed, only for it to culminate into a divisive and volatile wedge within our community.
Is that why you moved to Mount Airy? So that we can sit around and talk about all the amenities we would like to see our town provide and hope that some day our grandchildren will reap those rewards?
The time is now. Stop the chatter. Take action.
The 2008 town survey indicates that 61 percent of our residents want a recreational facility in town. The proposed Rigler annexation brings the possibility of a community recreation center.
The petitioner publicly stated that he is willing to work with leaders and residents to either:
Create a neighborhood-sensitive design for the Rigler location that conforms to our quaint, small-town atmosphere, is compatible and harmonious to the surrounding areas, and brings communities and families together.
Alternatively, if Rigler does not meet the needs of such requirements, find another location.
It is really simple. Annex the land, and it will be built somewhere suitable!
Details, design, and planning occur after the land becomes part of the town's boundaries, and the town obtains full control over the development of the land as well as the much-needed tax revenue it will provide.
Time is ticking, Mount Airy. Write to the members of the Town Council and tell them to vote yes to the Rigler annexation on Nov 2.
