The Weinberg Center for the Arts will kick off its 2009-2010 Emerging Artists Series with the American Revival Tour at 8 p.m. Friday at the theater, 20 W. Patrick St., Frederick.
Already well known across the country for playing such prestigious events as Telluride, MerleFest, the Grand Ole Opry and Prairie Home Companion, American Revival brings The Dixie Bee-Liners, Sierra Hull, and Uncle Earl together for the first time, drawing from the worlds of acoustic, folk, country, and bluegrass.
At the age of 18, award-winning mandolin player Hull has already earned the respect of the bluegrass world for her picking and singing alike. Hull performs with Highway 111, which features Cory Walker on banjo, former Mountain Heart member Clay Hess on guitar, and Jacob Eller on bass. Hull recently became the first bluegrass musician to receive the Berklee School of Music's prestigious Presidential Award scholarship, which entitles her to a "full ride" to the school, where she will start studying this fall.
Uncle Earl is a quartet of women who write and perform original music drawing on the traditions of old-time string bands.
Founded in 1999, the band continues to develop its unique sound a hybrid of contemporary and modern, with all the members committed to music steeped in tradition and yet unafraid to explore new frontiers.
The band has appeared live on BBC Radio Scotland, NPR, the Food Network, and radio playlists across the country and world-wide, including regular rotation on Sirius and XM satellite radio.
Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 at the door.
