We all benefit from preserving Ag Reserve

Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006

The county has the distinction of being a region where you can access the benefits of urban, suburban and rural life in less than an hour.

In the fall, we find no better way to de-stress than to take a drive into the county’s beautiful Agricultural Reserve. This precious green space is a jewel for all to enjoy. What we love most is that within just a short drive are stunning landscapes of barns and grazing animals, several orchards to pick apples, farm stands with apple cider and pumpkins, etc., and great views of Sugarloaf Mountain.

The country roads are ideal for cycling, and you can drive to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain and park there to enjoy spectacular views of the countryside below, or hike or picnic.

Keeping sprawl at bay is a difficult task for any county, but we have managed to preserve thousands of acres of open space and farmland. This benefits local farmers and residents like me who value having fresh produce during the year and enjoy getting away for a few hours.

I hope I can still say this is true here in Montgomery County for years to come.
