Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 Fresh paint, new baths, kitchen, bring College Gardens home up to date by Trinh T. Le | Staff Writer
Set on a corner lot in the established community of College Gardens is a charming 1968 colonial that has been updated with fresh paint throughout, a new kitchen and renovated bathrooms.
Mature trees including an apple tree grace the front yard. A brick walkway lined with bushes and plantings leads to the front door that has an oval-shaped leaded glass insert.
Inside, hardwoods cover the floors on the main and upper levels, as well as the steps along the oak staircase off of the entry foyer. A full bath is to the right and has a shower stall and a front window.
The living room, to the left, has crown molding and a pair of front windows. It opens to the dining room with crown and chair rail moldings, a brass chandelier and a window looking out to the backyard. Draperies throughout the home convey.
The updated kitchen has granite counters, recessed lights, and white cabinets and appliances. What was once a pantry has been replaced with a granite-topped counter flanked by walls, opening up the space.
To the right, the sunken family room has a half moon-shaped fireplace with brick surround and a raised hearth, as well as sliding glass doors to a brick patio and open grounds out back, where trees and plantings provide privacy.
The family room opens to a study with two front windows sandwiched between built-in bookshelves. A door here accesses the attached, one-car garage.
Four good-sized bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs – all with generous windows for a bright feel. The three smaller rooms share a hall bath with a pedestal sink and a tub⁄shower combination, as well as a window.
The master suite, to the left of the stairs, includes a walk-in closet and a dual-entry ceramic bath that can also be accessed from the hallway. The bedroom has two windows including a dormer overlooking the front yard.
Off of the hallway near the master bath, a door opens to a linen closet and stairs leading up to a finished attic, or the ‘‘bonus” room. Ideal for a home office, this room is outfitted with carpet, a closet, a built-in bookshelf and a double window.
The finished basement is carpeted and has a rec room with a built-in bench seat, the laundry room, and utility and storage areas.
