PRICING: The base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 regular cab pickup truck starts at $17,070 for the 2WD work truck up to $27,250 for the 4WD LT equipped with the 4.8L V8. Destination charges add $925.
Boasting best-in-class horsepower, towing capability and fuel economy, Chevrolet introduced the all-new Silverado light-duty pickup truck last year.
Changes for the 2008 model year include standard XM Satellite radio, a newly available power-adjustable driver’s seat on bench seat models, brighter instrument pointers in the gauge cluster and two new exterior colors: Dark Cherry Metallic and Deep Ruby Metallic.
The Silverado 1500 regular cab pickup truck offers two cargo box lengths – 6 ft 6 in. and 8 ft. and is available in WT, LT and LS trim levels.
Power for the regular cab Chevrolet pickup truck is provided by two workhorse light-duty Vortec truck engines a 4.3L V6 or 4.8L V8. A powerful Vortec 5.3L V8 is an available option. Torque is transferred to the ground through a Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronic four-speed automatic transmission.
On the road, the Silverado 1500 regular cab, equipped with the base V6 and four-speed automatic gearbox, is a solid performer.
A new coil-over-shock front suspension is mounted to the frame via a high-strength, precise attachment system for exceptional rigidity. This truck delivers a linear, responsive ride that enhances the fully planted driving feel.
Inside the passenger cabin, the Silverado is more spacious with increased storage space, improved comfort and more convenience. Flush surfaces, tight gaps and tolerances suggest a crafted interior of above average quality. Larger controls and door handles are designed to work easier with gloves.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 regular cab featured for this review was equipped with a 4.3L V6 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, mechanical 4WD, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, cargo management system, front tow hooks, automatic headlamp control, daytime running lights and much more.
SAFETY FEATURES: Dual front airbags, daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, OnStar communications system, tire pressure monitor and full-size spare tire. LT adds alarm system and remote keyless entry.
Optional safety equipment includes a locking rear axle, garage door opener and head curtain airbags.
