The Falcons reached the end zone three times in the first quarter and eventually built a 26-0 lead before Surrattsville got on the board late in the second quarter.
Central's Demetrius Davis carried 11 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns, all of which came in the first half. He also threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Harding in the second quarter. Tyrone Rushing returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for Central and also had six carries for 95 yards.
Gordon Crossland added 103 yards rushing on just four carries and scored on a 22-yard run in the fourth quarter. Richard Pearson returned an interception 42 yards for another Central TD in the fourth period. Pearson led the Falcons' defense with 12 tackles. James Hall added 10 tackles and two sacks, and Alphonzo Johnson had eight tackles.
Andre Williams tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Winslow for Surrattsville with 4:12 to play in the second quarter. The two-point conversion made it a 26-8 Central lead. Surrattsville also got a three-yard touchdown run from David Jones in the third quarter
. Central improved to 3-4 overall and earned its first win in the County 3A/2A/1A League after dropping four conference games this season. Surrattsville dropped to 2-5 and 1-4 in the league.
Friendly 32, Fairmont Heights 0
The Patriots got two touchdown runs from Navon Hobby and sent Fairmont Heights to its sixth shutout loss in seven games this season.
Hobby scored in the second quarter on a six-yard run and added a four-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Jordan Haden opened the scoring with a 37-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Dwayne Price ran 40 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, followed later in the period by a 30-yard touchdown pass from Sherrod Baltimore to Alex Blake. Price finished with eight carries for 95 yards rushing. Baltimore completed 7 of 12 passes for 130 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Friendly improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the County 3A/2A/1A League.
The Patriots have a home game next Friday night against surging Largo, which has won four in a row after opening the season 0-3. Friendly entered the weekend in second place in the 3A South Region playoff standings, with Largo sitting in sixth place. But two of the teams ahead of Largo – Chopticon and Lackey – both were losers this weekend. Fairmont Heights (0-7) has another tough opponent waiting for it next week, as the Hornets will travel to Frederick Douglass (5-2).
County 4A League
Wise 43, Laurel 0
Pumas' running back Anthony Wright carried 17 times for 156 yards and four touchdowns and also scored a two-point conversion. Wright, who entered the weekend as the county's leading rusher, has now run for 890 yards and 11 touchdowns on 132 carries this season.
Derron Tapp added seven carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Deandre Smith completed 4 of 5 passes for 114 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jabril Baldwin.
Deontre Johnson led the Wise defense with 10 tackles, including a sack and one that gave the Pumas a safety. Lumbus Burrell added eight tackles and also recorded a safety. Corey Darby had seven tackles, and Andrew Lowery, Anthony McDonald and Rahsaan Moore each added sacks. Wise (4-3) has allowed 36 points over its last four games, 24 of which came in a loss to Eleanor Roosevelt two weeks ago. The Pumas have held Charles H. Flowers and Bladensburg to single digits during the four-game stretch.
Laurel (2-5) had its two-game win streak snapped.
Flowers 59, High Point 0
The Jaguars made quick work of High Point and remained undefeated, setting up next week's showdown against Eleanor Roosevelt.
Flowers (7-0) ran a total of 14 offensive plays, scoring on six of those snaps as High Point (0-7) continued to struggle and remained scoreless for the season.
The tone for the game was set defensively as quarterback/linebacker Dwayne Powell, linebacker Lorne Goree and Donte Faison all had interception returns for touchdowns. Flowers forced a total of five High Point turnovers.
On offense, Michael Stennett, Brodist Norton, Anthony Bell, Chris Gregory, Daryl Bailey and Jonathan Clark all had a touchdown. Jimmy Jenkins scored two times.
The Jaguars visit Roosevelt at 2 p.m. Saturday in a battle of the county's only two remaining undefeated teams.
Roosevelt 35, Northwestern 6
The Raiders built a 28-0 halftime lead as the defense and special teams led the way.
Roosevelt opened the scoring when Mike Thomas tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Thomas in the first quarter. Derrick Thomas ran back a punt 70 yards for a touchdown later in the first quarter. In the second period, Don Davis returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown, and Dominique Shepard took back another fumble 40 yards later in the second quarter.
Tristan Youngblood ran 17 yards for a Roosevelt touchdown in the third quarter. Youngblood finished with 109 yards on seven carries.
Northwestern avoided a shutout when quarterback Guillermo Herrera tossed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Delvon Butler in the fourth quarter. Butler ran for 70 yards on 12 carries.
Private schools
Riverdale Baptist 20, Bishop Ireton 14
Terrence Koen scored on offense and defense to help lift Riverdale Baptist to its second win in as many weeks against a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference opponent. Koen had a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown and also had a one-yard touchdown run.
Keith Hawkins ran for more than 100 yards and scored on a 27-yard touchdown run for the Crusaders, who improved to 5-2. Last week, Riverdale Baptist shut out St. Mary's Ryken, 38-0.
DeMatha 35, Gonzaga 6
The Stags led 15-0 at halftime and broke the game open with two third-quarter touchdowns. Cornerback Michael Coley returned an interception 60 yards to the Gonzaga 10-yard line in the third quarter, setting up a five-yard scoring run by Marcus Coker. Quarterback Tommy Chroniger added a one-yard TD run later in the third period.
In the fourth quarter, Aaron Conaway ran 30 yards for the second of his two touchdowns in the game. He also had an 18-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Jeff Knox opened the scoring for DeMatha with a five-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Michael Branthover had a 22-yard field goal for the Stags, who improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
Coker ran for 148 yards on 13 carries, and Conaway added 92 yards on six carries. Chroniger carried seven times for 84 yards.
"This was the first game all season where everyone was healthy," said DeMatha coach Bill McGregor. "And it changed us as a football team. We were able to put a different team on the field because we had everybody available. But it was good to play with a lot of different guys early [in the season] because a lot of people have gotten good experience. This was a good team win, and we're getting better as a football team."
Good Counsel 42, Bishop McNamara 6
Good Counsel built a 35-0 lead before Bishop McNamara got its only points on a second-quarter touchdown run by quarterback Kevin Clark. The Mustangs managed just 31 yards rushing. Clark completed 6 of 15 passes for 74 yards. Chris Townsand had a solid showing on defense for McNamara, recovering a fumble and returning it 30 yards and chipping in with several tackles.
