Frederick County Sheriff's Office deputies are still investigating the ATV crash that killed a 44-year-old Frederick City man Sunday night.
Ronald Lee DeGrange was traveling north on Thurston Road when he left the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Thurston Road and Peter Road near Urbana, according to preliminary investigation by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators have determined that DeGrange was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but they have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor according to Cpl. Jennifer Bailey , a sheriff's office spokeswoman. There were also other people riding with DeGrange, and police are still investigating their possible involvement in the crash but no charges have been made, she said.
Deputies arrived on the scene at about 6:18 p.m., and DeGrange was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the likely cause of death was injuries sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.
DeGrange was born in Frederick on Dec. 20, 1964, to Paul A. and Ann R. Smith DeGrange, and he was the husband of Melissa D. McFarland DeGrange, according to an obituary notice from Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
DeGrange lived in Frederick all his life, graduating from Gov. TJ High School in 1982. He was employed with the Luck Stone Corporation in Leesburg, Va.
He is survived by his sons Ronald L. and Daniel E. DeGrange of Brunswick and Tyler and Zachary Brashears of Hagerstown, his daughter Brooke Crosby of Hagerstown, his brothers Paul A. DeGrange Jr. and wife Paula of Rocky Ridge, Douglas W. DeGrange and wife Gina of Ocean City, Mark L. DeGrange and fiancée Shelley Long of New Market, David A. DeGrange and Richard Cline both of Frederick, his sisters Robin E. Legg and husband Gene and Cynthia A. Forder and husband William of Frederick. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, according to the obituary.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Lynn and Kimberly Sue DeGrange and his grandparents Charles and Ethel Smith and Olive and Roscoe DeGrange.
Keeney Basford P.A. Funeral Home in Frederick hosted a visitation for the family on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., today at the funeral home. Maj. Raymond Pruitt will officiate, and DeGrange will be interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
