After two years of boosting its membership rolls and raising its profile in the community, James A. Dula is stepping down as CEO of the Prince George's Chamber of Commerce.
"I leave knowing that my job has been done and look forward to pursuing other opportunities," Dula wrote in an e-mail announcing his resignation today. "The vision is in place and the direction is clear. The chamber is now one of the largest and most progressive chambers in the state of Maryland the Washington, D.C., area."
Since Dula took over leadership of the chamber in 2006, membership has grown from 600 to more than 900, close to Dula's original goal of 1,000. He was not available for comment.
Dula came during a rocky time for the chamber. Previous CEOs had served a handful of months each in 2005 and 2006.
Dula came on board with the goal of creating better synergy within the organization and improving communications with the county government, as well as approaching the business community as a whole. He also helped the chamber establish a grant program to pay dividends to the chamber.
"Thanks to everyone for helping me build a model chamber as we brought it from the bottom to the top," Dula said.
Craig M. Muckle, chairman of the chamber, also was unavailable for comment.
