A 16-year-old Riverdale Park teenager was shot and killed Sept. 30 while walking along a sidewalk in East Riverdale with another teenager, according to Prince George's County police.
At about 11:30 p.m., Marcos Medina, of the 5500 block of 54th Avenue, was walking with a 17-year-old male in the 5300 block of 56th Place, when they were approached by three males who shot them, county police spokesman Larry Johnson said.
Medina was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 17-year-old had non-life-threatening injuries, Johnson said, adding that police are not releasing his name in order to protect his identity.
Police are searching for three males in a gray-colored Honda, Johnson said.
He added that police are not yet certain if the males who shot the teens were in the car or on the sidewalk at the time of the shooting.
Police are investigating what might have led to the shooting and whether the victims and the suspects knew each other, Johnson said.
Medina was a freshman at Parkdale High School, said Lynn McCawley, Prince George's County schools spokeswoman.
Last week, parents received a letter about the incident and counselors were on hand for students and faculty, McCawley said.
