Oct. 2

n5:20 p.m. — A single bullet is shot through the front window of a Michaels craft store in Aspen Hill. No one injured.

n6:04 p.m. — James D. Martin, 55, of Silver Spring is killed by a single bullet as he gets out of his car at the Shoppers Food Warehouse in Glenmont.

Oct. 3

n7:41 a.m. — James L. ‘‘Sonny” Buchanan, 39, of Abingdon, Va., is killed by a single bullet as he cuts grass near a Rockville Pike car dealership in North Bethesda.

n8:12 a.m. — Premkumar Walekar, 54, of Olney is killed by a single bullet as he refuels his cab at a Mobil station in Aspen Hill.

n8:37 a.m. — Sarah Ramos, 34, of Silver Spring is killed by a single bullet as she sits on a bench near a post office in Aspen Hill.

n9:58 a.m. — Lori Ann Lewis Rivera, 25, of Silver Spring is killed by a single bullet as she vacuums her minivan at a Shell station in Kensington.

n9:15 p.m. — Pascal Charlot, 72, of Washington, D.C., is killed by a single bullet as he stands on Georgia Avenue N.W. in Washington.

Oct. 4

n2:30 p.m. — Caroline Seawell, 43, of Spotsylvania County, Va., is seriously wounded by a single bullet as she loads a minivan near a Michaels craft store in Fredericksburg, Va.

Oct. 7

n8:09 a.m. — Iran Brown, 13, is grievously injured by a single bullet while walking into Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie. A shell casing and a tarot card that says ‘‘I am God” are found near the school. Later, authorities announce a local, state and federal task force to find the sniper.

Oct. 9

n8:18 p.m. — Dean H. Meyers, 53, of Gaithersburg is killed by a single bullet as he refuels his car at a Sunoco station in Manassas, Va.

Oct. 11

n9:35 a.m. — Kenneth Bridges, 53, of Philadelphia is killed by a single bullet as he gasses up at an Exxon station in Massaponax, Va.

Oct. 14

n9:15 p.m. — Linda Franklin, 47, of Arlington, Va., is killed by a single bullet as she and her husband load packages into their car in a parking garage outside a Home Depot in Falls Church, Va.

Oct . 19

n7:59 p.m. — Jeff Hopper, 37, of Florida is shot by a single bullet while leaving a Ponderosa steakhouse in Ashland, Va., with his wife. A multipage letter asking for $10 million to stop the killings is left for police.

Oct. 20

nMontgomery Police Chief Charles A. Moose sends the first of six public messages to the killer as the multijurisdictional search for the sniper intensifies.

Oct. 21

nPolice rush a man making a telephone call from a Richmond service station where they believed the sniper had called the task force earlier, fueling hopes that the sniper has been caught. The man and a companion are arrested but not found to be connected to the sniper.

Oct. 22

n5:56 a.m. — Conrad E. Johnson, 35, of Oxon Hill is killed with a single bullet as he stands on the top step of his Ride On bus in Aspen Hill.

Oct. 23

n11:55 p.m. — Police issue a lookout for two men in a 1990 blue or burgundy Chevrolet Caprice with New Jersey tags. Earlier in the day, federal agents search a house and yard in Tacoma, Wash., near an Army base where the older of the two men was assigned as a combat support soldier. Moose issues a final communiqué to the sniper.

Oct. 24

n3:30 a.m. — State and federal authorities capture two men asleep in a Chevrolet Caprice at a rest stop near Myersville in northwest Frederick County. A rifle and tripod are found in the car. The men are taken to Montgomery County for questioning.
