Monocacy Elementary was one of two schools recently recognized by the County Council for its recycling efforts.
The Dickerson school and Silver Spring's Arcola Elementary were honored with proclamations by Councilman George Levanthal (D-At large) of Takoma Park at the council's Sept. 23 meeting for being the only county schools to recycle at least 50 percent of their waste.
Monocacy was one of 11 schools to receive a visit from the county Division of Solid Waste Services during Recycling Awareness Week in May as a reward for its recycling program. The school's program was also featured on Montgomery County Public Schools Instructional TV's "Cover to Cover." To view the show, visit www.montgomeryschoolsmd.
