A Bethesda teen arrested in July on weapons and explosives charges was indicted Thursday for manufacturing destructive devices and possessing firearms.
Collin McKenzie-Gude, 18, was indicted on two counts of manufacture or possession of destructive devices, four counts of possession of regulated firearms and one count of regulated ammunition, according to a statement from the Montgomery County State's Attorney's office.
According to the indictment, on or about July 29, McKenzie-Gude possessed explosive materials with the intent to "create a destructive device," as well as knowingly manufacturing and storing a destructive device.
It goes on to say that McKenzie-Gude was also in possession of a H&K USP 9mm handgun, as well as an AK-47 style assault rifle.
It is illegal to own either weapon in Maryland under the age of 21.
McKenzie-Gude originally surrendered to police on July 30, a day after authorities found the illegal weapons and more than 50 pounds of bomb-making materials in his bedroom. He was released on $115,000 bond, then arrested a second time on July 31 on charges he detonated homemade explosives in Gaithersburg in July 2007.
On Sept. 11, McKenzie-Gude was indicted on charges of robbery and attempted carjacking, stemming from an incident at White Flint Mall July 29.
McKenzie-Gude was originally slated for a hearing on the weapons and explosives charges Friday. The indictment, which moves McKenzie-Gude's case from District Court and Circuit Court, effectively canceled the hearing.
