Edward H. Kaplan of Potomac was named chairman of the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission, succeeding Thomas F. Brady, chairman since 2003. Kaplan is a director of the MPT Foundation.

USEC Inc. of Bethesda named Jim Bolon director of engineering, procurement and construction for its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Previously, Bolon, a retired Navy officer, was executive vice president of Theta Pro2Serve Management Co. and also worked for British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. and Lockheed Martin Energy Systems.

Goodman & Co. of Hampton Roads, Va., named JoAnn Brown senior associate in its Rockville office. Previously, Brown was an accountant for the Bond Market Association and senior accountant for Rockefeller & Co.

Prince George’s

The University of Maryland, College Park, named Stephen Henry a music librarian in its Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. Previously, Henry was assistant music librarian at the University of Pittsburgh’s Theodore M. Finney Music Library.

The University of Maryland’s Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute in College Park named Jim Chung director of the Mtech VentureAccelerator. Previously, Chung was director of new business development for the Corporate Executive Board. He also was vice president of Intervale Capital and managing director of incTank Ventures.

State

A.L. Giannopoulos, chairman, president and CEO of Micros Systems Inc. of Columbia, was named 2007 Hospitality Executive of the Year by the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society.

Thayer Lodging Group of Annapolis named James Rowe director of acquisitions and development. Previously, Rowe was an investment sales associate with Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels and worked in Raymond James & Associates’ investment banking department.

Crosby Marketing Communications of Annapolis promoted Pam Atkinson to vice president, media director. Previously, Atkinson was a media supervisor at Eisner Communications.

Miles & Stockbridge PC of Baltimore promoted Jefferson V. Wright to head of its litigation department. Before joining the firm in 1981, Wright clerked for J. Dudley Digges on the Court of Appeals of Maryland. Wright succeeds John Parker Sweeney, who is joining Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s Baltimore office.

Simondr of Baltimore named Lisa Beck director of operations.

Comcast Corp. named John Conwell regional vice president of government affairs for its Potomac region, which comprises Washington, D.C., and parts of Maryland and Virginia. Previously, Conwell was legal and regulatory counsel for the Cable Telecommunications Association of Maryland, Delaware & D.C. and attorney adviser for the Federal Communications Commission.

The Howard County Economic Development Authority named Candace D. Perdue a communications associate. Previously, Perdue worked for the YMCA of Burlington County (N.J.) and co-hosted and produced a morning radio show on 1300 WIMG in Trenton, N.J. She also was a mobile traffic reporter and producer for Clear Channel Radio.
