Is Seymour Deitchman ("What's Chevy Chase's real motive in Purple Line fight?" Sept. 9) serious? Following his arguments to their absurd conclusion, it would be OK to complete the Purple Line but to end it "at the town's northern border at its western end, near Wisconsin Avenue." By the same token, in the name of noise control equity, traffic on Connecticut Avenue should be banned. And the icing on the paranoid cake: "There must be some hidden motive in the town's fight against the light rail Purple Line."
Isn't it at all possible for many like-minded, sensible people to object to what is seen as an intrusive, expensive, misplaced rail line without invoking puerile arguments and implying to them sinister motives?
If you want the rail line, present arguments supporting your position. Don't offer up a variation on "they're going to kill grandma" style harangues.
And, by the way, as a resident of North Chevy Chase, I'm more than confident that we can take care of ourselves, thank you.
