Stone: Schools chief search is on

Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005

Work will begin immediately for the search firm hired to find a CEO for Prince George’s County schools, according to Howard Stone, vice chairman of the county Board of Education.

The board announced Monday that it hired Ray and Associates Inc. to conduct a nationwide and countywide search for candidates to take over the leadership of the 136,000-student school system.

‘‘They have a lot of work to do,” Stone said. ‘‘They have their work cut out for them.”

The search firm has been operating for 30 years, according to information from the school system, and is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ray and Associates Inc. has conducted searches for superintendents for three different jurisdictions in Virginia and also in Howard County, where an internal candidate was chosen.

‘‘Ray and Associates has the experience and resources to recruit quality candidates from around the country and find excellent applicants from within our state and county,” said Board Member Charlene Dukes, who headed the search firm selection committee that made the choice. ‘‘The search will begin immediately and include multiple opportunities for public participation.”
