TLC going HollywoodRetirement Living TV’s new creative chief, Charles Hirschhorn, may run into Angela Shapiro-Mathes in his weekly commutes between Columbia and Hollywood. Shapiro-Mathes is president and general manager of Discovery Communications’ The Learning Channel, which is moving from Silver Spring to Los Angeles, according to spokesman Andy Scafetta. About 50 employees will be affected. MediaWeek, a trade publication, reported that Shapiro-Mathes, who joined Discovery in April, initially thought TLC could be managed from both coasts. She then decided against the arrangement. The publication said employees affected will be those in non-sales divisions, including programming, production, marketing, research and communications. David Abraham, former head of TLC, left the company in March as part of CEO David Zaslav’s corporate shakeup to consolidate all production facilities into one unit and under a new senior business manager.
