Junior Marquis Morgan rushed for 243 yards, but host Magruder survived Watkins Mill by a single yard Friday night, winning 14-12.
The visiting Wolverines (0-2) scored late in the fourth quarter to cut the Colonels' lead to 14-12. They went for the potential game-tying 2-point conversion, but Magruder linebacker Renan Guedes made a game-saving tackle at the 1-yard line. Magruder (1-1) then recovered the onside kick to seal the victory.
The Colonels won despite nine fumbles, three lost. Watkins Mill's Preston Carmon rushed for 132 yards on 19 carries.
Rockville senior Yoel Goldstein's 854-yard kickoff return for a touchdown put the Rams up for good in Friday's 19-16 win at Richard Montgomery.
Rockville 19, Richard Montgomery 16
Rams sophomore running back Crusoe Gongbay picked up his second consecutive 180-yard rushing performance. His 60-yard, first-quarter touchdown run gave Rockville a 13-0 lead.
Richard Montgomery senior Justin Henderson's 83-yard rush to the end zone and two-point conversion cut that to 13-8 at halftime.
Gongbay scored again on a 5-yard run with a minute left in the third quarter. Richard Montgomery scored its final touchdown with 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter off senior quarterback Andre Brown's 15-yard pass to junior William Kennedy.
Gaithersburg 28, Wheaton 7
After rallying in the final two minutes in its opening-night victory, Gaithersburg cruised to win number two on the season Friday at Wheaton.
The Knights (0-2) didn't pose the threat Springbrook did a week ago, as the Trojans (2-0) jumped on top with four unanswered scores to start the game. Senior Serge Kona got them untracked with a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter, and fullback Chad Marshall found pay dirt twice before the first half ended, on runs of 1 and 9 yards. Starting halfback B.J. Marshall rushed 14 yards for their final score.
Wheaton's only points came on a 55-yard run from halfback Rico Taylor late in the fourth quarter.
Damascus 40, Einstein 7
Sophomore quarterback Connor Frazier followed his impressive varsity debut against Kennedy last weekend with an even better performance Friday.
Frazier completed 8 of 14 passes for 167 yards and touchdowns of 56 and 20 yards. He also rushed for 25 yards and a score to give the Swarmin' Hornets (2-0) momentum heading into their huge match-up with defending Class 4A state champion Quince Orchard next Friday.
On the ground, Brian Lucas rumbled for a game-high 122 yards and two touchdowns, as Damascus rolled up 504 yards of total offense, including 337 on the ground. Sophomore Malcolm Crockett led Einstein with 128 yards on 13 carries.
Whitman 28, B-CC 9
The visiting Vikings continued their annual dominance of the battle for Bethesda Friday at B-CC. The win evened Whitman's record at 1-1 heading into next week's game against Wootton, which carries serious 4A playoff implications.
The Barons (0-2) fell despite a fine effort from senior quarterback Jake Boross, who threw for 177 yards and rushed for 13 more. B-CC's score came on a pass from Boross to Augustin Vita, who had 82 yards receiving on the night.
B-CC visits Seneca Valley Friday.
Smithsburg 27, Poolesville 0
Using a balanced attack, the visiting Smithsburg Leopards shut out Poolesville Friday night.
Quarterback Kyle Orndorff completed 5 of 7 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns while a host of running backs helped the Leopards gain 149 yards on the ground against the Falcons.
Poolesville's offense struggled, managing only 85 yards of offense and six first downs. Poolesville fell to 0-2 and travels to Boonsboro next Friday.
Quince Orchard 25, Churchill 7
The defending Class 4A state champion moved to 2-0 on the season heading into its showdown with Damascus next week. Churchill fell to 1-1.
