Expect lane closures on southbound Interstate 270 when work begins on a four-mile section of the highway between Middlebrook and Muddy Branch later this month.
The project is the second phase of a $10 million overhaul that began in May on the northbound lanes and is expected to be complete by the spring, according to the State Highway Administration. Other work will include resurfacing ramps at the Route 117, Route 124 and Middlebrook Road interchanges; improving drainage; upgrading existing sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards; marking pavement; replacing curbs, gutters and guardrails; and replacing concrete median barriers.
There will be double-lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sept. 11-12 and 18-19 during milling and paving work, according to SHA. There will be single-lane closures during construction from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Expect double-lane closures Sundays through Thursdays from 8 p.m.-4:30 a.m.
One of the collector-distributor lanes between Middlebrook Road and Route 117 will be closed Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Also expect intermittent closures on the ramps to and from Route 117, Route 124 and Middlebrook Road Sundays through Thursdays from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.
