A 25-year-old woman was killed Sept. 4 in a two-car collision on Annapolis Road in Bowie, according to Prince George's County fire officials.
The woman was driving an SUV that flipped over, partially ejecting her from the vehicle, after colliding with another car. She sustained severe head and chest trauma and was pronounced dead at the Bowie Health Center. The name of the woman was not immediately available.
Mark Brady, a county fire spokesman, said typically when drivers are ejected or partially ejected from vehicles during an accident it is because they were not wearing seatbelts. It has not yet been determined if the woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The crash occurred at around 2:15 p.m. in front of the Bowie Fire/EMS Station 39 and the City of Bowie announced at 4:30 p.m. the road would remained closed between Superior Lane and Millstream and Stonybrook drives for several hours.
The teenage driver of the other car was not injured in the incident and there were no passengers in either car, Brady said.
The Bowie Police Department and the county police department's Accident Reconstruction Team will conduct an investigation into the crash.
