Study planned for second indoor sports facility
The city of Bowie is moving forward with a study to determine the feasibility of a second city-maintained indoor sports facility. City staff is now accepting requests for proposals to assess the need and cost of a new sports facility. Several sports groups that use other indoor and outdoor facilities, including basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and soccer players, have requested more indoor space be made available. The City Council requested the study to determine the need for another facility.
Chamber of Commerce
to hold energy forum
The Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce is hosting a lunchtime forum on energy efficiency and reliability Monday. The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the city's Parks and Grounds Maintenance Facility located at 3106 Mitchellville Road. The cost is $20.
Scheduled speakers include Walt Auburn, director of Energy Efficiency at the Maryland Energy Administration; Russell Frisby, spokesman for Marylanders for Reliable Power; Melanie Santiago-Mosier, director of Legislative Affairs for Maryland Public Service Commission and Brandon Owens of Owens Comfort Systems. Patriotic concert rounds out summer performance series
Bowie's summer sunset concert series will conclude Sunday with a performance by the United States Army Band. The concert will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Robert V. Setera Amphitheater in Allen Pond Park, 3330 Northview Dr. The concert is held to salute members of the Armed Forces.
