Micros profit, revenue soar

The company finished the year with $101.3 million in profits, up $21.3 million, or 26.6 percent, from last year. Sales totaled $954.2 million, an increase of $168.5 million. This increase is mainly due to an overall increase in sales volume, coupled with an improvement in the company's margins, according to a Micros statement.
The company also announced that WorldHotels of Frankfurt, Germany, has selected its Opera property managements system and will exclusively recommend the system to its hotels. WorldHotels comprises a global group of independent hotels and regional hotel brands, with almost 500 affiliate properties in more than 300 destinations and 70 countries worldwide.
The company's restaurant client base includes HMS Host, Ruby Tuesday's, Burger King, Auntie Anne's, Whitbread, the Wynn Casino and Resort, Hilton Hotels and M&T Bank Stadium.
"We are extremely pleased with the record results of the 2008 fourth quarter and fiscal year," said Tom Giannopoulos, Micros chairman and CEO. "As we now enter fiscal year 2009, we believe we have the right people, infrastructure and products in place which will allow us to continue to grow our company and expand our customer base."
Micros reported a strong final quarter, with net income of $30.7 million and $256.6 million in revenues. About $416.5 million of this year's revenues came from U.S. sales. Micros guidance calls for more than $1 billion in sales in fiscal 2009.
The company has about 25,000 property management system applications installed worldwide.
