A family of four was displaced early Monday after an electrical fire caused about $650,000 in damage to their home in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services were called around 4 a.m. Monday to the fire, which appears to have started in the attic of a home at 1100 block of Kersey Road in the Kemp Mill community near Arcola Avenue. The fire was accidental, said Pete Piringer, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

The fire also caused about $10,000 to $20,000 in damage to a house next door; however, no occupants of that home were displaced, Piringer said. Parts of Arcola Avenue were closed for several hours early Monday morning. Three family pets were missing on Monday and have been presumed dead and one pet rabbit was killed.

One woman and two dogs were in the house at the time of the fire but were not injured.
