One person was killed and another was injured when a car struck a utility pole early Sunday morning in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.

Kebeh Akwafo, 26, of the 8200 block of Londonderry Court in Laurel, who was the passenger in the car, died Sunday at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda from her injuries, police said.

Quincy Irish, 31, also of the 8200 block of Londonderry Court in Laurel and the driver of the car, is in stable condition at Suburban Hospital and is expected to survive, police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said.

Irish was driving Akwafo in a 2005 Ford Taurus northbound on Good Hope Road just north of Cape May Road about 4 a.m. Sunday when the car left the road and struck the pole, police said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said, adding that no charges have been filed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call detectives with the collision reconstruction unit at 301-840-2435.
