Bad weather is bound to disrupt schools some time this winter.

The decision to close or delay school is based on the most severe weather conditions in any part of the county, said Kate Harrison, a spokeswoman for Montgomery County Public Schools.

Officials will make the decision before 5 a.m. to ensure timely notification. Decisions about early dismissals will be made no later than 11 a.m.

MCPS offers a variety of ways to find out if schools are closed. Parents can visit the MCPS Web site at and look for announcements at the top of the home page.

MCPS also has a news hotline which provides a recorded message with emergency information. The hotline phone number is 301-279-3673.
